About Quraysh

Quraysh is the name of the famous tribe that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) belonged to. They lived in Mecca and were the keepers of the Kaaba. This surah, the 106th in the Quran, is named after them.

It reminds the Quraysh of two wonderful blessings Allah gave them. First, safety for their trade journeys: every winter they traveled south and every summer they traveled north, and Allah kept them safe along the way. Second, Allah protected them from hunger by giving them food, and from fear by keeping them safe.

Because Allah gave them so much, the surah gently tells them what to do in return: worship Allah alone, the Lord of the Kaaba. It is a beautiful lesson for children too. When we notice all the good things Allah gives us, we thank Him by worshipping Him.
